All facts: Messe Frankfurt against copying

Messe Frankfurt to give Collectione exhibitors even greater support in the fight against product piracy

As the first fair and exhibition company to do so, Messe Frankfurt has launched a concerted campaign against product and brand piracy under the name 'Messe Frankfurt against copying'. According to estimates, product copies already account for eight percent of world trade – and simultaneously generate losses running into billions of euros for the manufacturers of branded products. Figures from the German Ministry of Finance show, for example, that almost one percent of all goods seized in Germany come from the perfume and cosmetic sector. Thus, this product group holds tenth place in the list of seizures by product groups.

Messe Frankfurt published an information brochure for exhibitors with information and details of how to obtain assistance.

Messe Frankfurt considers it vital that all exhibitors be fully informed about the possibility of intellectual-property theft because anyone affected by product piracy can only take legal action for restraint and damages providing certain steps have been taken in advance of the fair. According to German law, Messe Frankfurt GmbH is not entitled to take action against product pirates. Only the owner of the registered design can do this. Now in its second edition, the Messe Frankfurt information brochure lists all important measures and registration requirements. It also includes contact details for firms of lawyers that can provide assistance during the fair should this be necessary.
